Ordering & Delivery

How do I order my medication?

Your physician will send us a prescription for your medication. After we verify coverage by your insurance company and secure financial assistance if needed, we’ll coordinate your first delivery. Medication is delivered directly to your home, at no additional cost. We will also remind you when you are due for a refill and coordinate those shipments with you.

How can I find out the status of my prescription order?

Please call 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711) and ask for a Care Team member or email us at MyCareTeam@BiologicsInc.com. Our staff is ready to provide insight into your prescription status and anticipated delivery information.

How will my medication be shipped to me?

Biologics uses FedEx, the U.S. Postal Service and other shipping services. We track every package until it’s delivered. Sometimes, shipments may be delayed for reasons we cannot control — bad weather or a truck breakdown, for instance. We’ll call you if we know a shipment is at risk of being late. Please call us at 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711) if you don’t receive your medication on time. Our staff is available 24/7, 365 days a year, to help you receive the medicines you need. In the unlikely event that we are unable to get your prescription to you, we will try to locate another pharmacy that can.

How will I get my medicine during bad weather, natural disasters or other emergencies?

Biologics will continue to operate even if a disaster — natural or otherwise — strikes our home office in Cary, North Carolina. If circumstances call for it, we’ll move to a new location to continue operations. No matter what happens, our phone and email will NOT change: 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711), and MyCareTeam@BiologicsInc.com.

If a disaster strikes in your area and you need to evacuate your home, or you have another kind of emergency, let us know at 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711) and we’ll update the delivery address. We’ll also try to contact you. If we’re unable to reach you, we’ll do our best to reach your doctor and emergency contacts (be sure to include these contacts on your profile page.) We also monitor websites like FEMA.gov and RedCross.org for customer contacts, so register with them if you have to leave your home.

What if I’m going on vacation or will be away from home for an extended period?

If you are planning a trip, please make sure you have enough medication to get through your trip without needing a refill. If you are due for a refill while you are on vacation, to ensure you don’t have a gap in therapy, we can deliver your refills wherever you are within the U.S. We are licensed in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam, so rest assured that we will deliver your needed medication right to your doorstep, wherever that may be. Just talk to your Biologics Care Team ahead of your trip.

What if I need to return my medication?

Ordinarily a specialty pharmacy cannot accept medication returns. Exceptions: If the FDA recalls the medication, or if you receive an incorrect shipment. If either of those things happens, we’ll call you to tell you how to return the drug. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711).

My doctor has prescribed additional medications that I can’t get at Biologics — what should I do?

Biologics is a specialty pharmacy, so we only handle complex care therapies for cancer or rare diseases. For anything else, contact your insurer to find out where to get those medications filled.

Medication Safety & Adherence

What is medication adherence, and why does it matter?

If you’re adherent, it means you’re taking your medication as your doctor prescribed. In other words, you’re taking the right dose at the right time for the correct length of time. Medication adherence helps your treatment work as intended and can help prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and lower healthcare costs.

Where should I store my medication?

Store your medication in a cool, dry place, like your bedroom or dining room. It is NOT recommended to store medication in the kitchen or the bathroom, because the heat and humidity can make your medicines less effective.

What time of day is best to take my medicine?

That depends on the medication. Your Biologics pharmacist will advise you of the best time. Take it at the same time every day.

Should I take my medicine with water? Can I take it with orange juice or some other liquid?

Water is a neutral liquid that does not affect the medicine once it is in your body. Other liquids may change how the medicine is processed by your body. We’ll tell you which is best for your medication.

What does it mean to take my medicine on an empty stomach?

Some medicines are more easily absorbed — and work better — if you take them one hour before meals or two hours after a meal. If this is the case in your situation, we’ll let you know before we send your prescription. Don’t worry about black coffee or tea — having some won’t affect your medication or change your “empty stomach” status.

Are vitamins and herbal supplements safe to take with my medicine?

Not always. Some vitamins, herbal supplements, foods and over-the-counter drugs may affect or even weaken your medication. We recommend that you make a complete list of all medications and supplements you take and share it with your doctors, their medical staff and your Biologics pharmacist, and be sure to ask about any other foods or supplements you should avoid.

What should I do if I miss a dose of my medicine?

It depends on the medication. Some doses should be skipped and resumed the next day. Others should be taken as soon as possible, depending on when you remember you missed it. Your Biologics pharmacist is happy to guide you in the right direction. Just call a Care Team member at 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711).

What if I experience bad side effects?

You will have access to a Biologics clinical oncology pharmacist and nurse who can answer questions about your medication and help you manage side effects. You will also receive comprehensive counseling at the time of your first dispense to ensure you know how to properly administer your medication, helping to reduce the risk of side effects. While our Biologics care team is here to help you prevent and manage side effects, it’s essential that you share any side effects that you are experiencing with your provider and nursing team as well. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.

How do I properly dispose of my medication?

Please don’t flush it down the toilet or throw it away. It can become an environmental hazard. If you have leftover medications, ask your Biologics pharmacist for guidance at 800.850.4306 (TTY: 711).

Support & Resources

What if I can’t afford my medication?

Biologics will work with your insurance company to secure prior authorization for your medication. If insurance will not cover your treatment, you don’t have insurance, or you cannot meet your co-pay requirement, we’ll work to find financial support for you through manufacturer assistance programs, charitable organizations and other sources.

What resources are available to support me on my treatment journey?

It’s important to have a support system you can rely on during this difficult and emotional journey. In addition to your family and friends, as well as provider care team, look for local or online support groups to join. Your Biologics care team is also always there to answer questions. We collaborate with many trusted oncology and rare disease patient advocacy groups as they can play a vital role in empowering you and your loved ones with the knowledge and resources needed to reach your best possible outcome. Visit our patient advocacy page to learn more about these different organizations.

There are also many nationally recognized organizations that offer additional resources, such as the American Cancer Society, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, National Cancer Institute, National Organization for Rare Disorders and organizations for specific cancers or other disorders.
