PROVIDER CLINICAL SUPPORT

Tap into specialty support beyond the prescription

Biologics’ clinical pharmacists and nurses support patients throughout their treatment journey by providing education, side effect management and adherence support, while keeping providers informed of time-sensitive clinical concerns.

CARE AND COMMUNICATION

Partner with an ally that understands complex journeys

Patients often have important questions once they begin treatment at home. Biologics’ specialty pharmacists and registered nurses support patients throughout treatment, leveraging expertise in oncology, rare and orphan diseases, and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) therapies to provide timely education, support, and clinical guidance.

Biologics’ nurses serve as an ongoing clinical resource

Our nursing support program helps patients navigate treatment with confidence through personalized education, side effect management and adherence support. Biologics nurses help patients understand what to expect, address treatment-related challenges, and stay engaged with therapy as prescribed.

Biologics nurses support patients between office visits but do not replace your clinical staff or make independent treatment decisions. Instead, they reinforce the treatment plan, encourage patients to contact your office with questions or symptoms that may affect adherence, and help ensure important concerns are communicated promptly.

When appropriate, our nurses notify your office of time-sensitive issues, including:

  • Clinically significant symptoms or safety concerns
  • Suspected adverse events (AEs), which may also be reported to the manufacturer as required
  • Potential adherence risks identified during pharmacist or nurse interactions

Our goal is to provide an additional layer of support between office visits—helping patients understand their therapy, recognize when to seek medical attention, and remain on track with treatment. For added peace of mind, patients also have access to our 24/7 clinical hotline for support after hours, on weekends, and during holidays.

It starts with a “Day Zero” call from our pharmacist

Before delivery

Before treatment begins, a Biologics pharmacist connects with the patient or caregiver to review the therapy plan, provide education, answer questions and ensure they feel prepared for what lies ahead. During this conversation, our pharmacist:

  • Reviews how and when to take the medication
  • Provides education on any special storage, handling, or administration requirements
  • Discusses potential side effects, what to expect during treatment, and when to contact the care team
  • Completes a comprehensive medication review, including prescriptions, over-the-counter products, and supplements, to identify potential drug interactions
  • Conducts a patient assessment to evaluate overall wellness, adherence risk, quality-of-life considerations and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Answers questions that may have arisen since the provider visit and reinforces key treatment information to help patients feel prepared and confident as they begin therapy

Registered nursing guidance for patients throughout treatment

Following the initial onboarding call with a Biologics clinical pharmacist, patients may receive ongoing support from a registered nurse throughout their treatment journey. Nursing outreach is tailored to the patient’s individual needs and therapy requirements, providing continued education, side effect management and adherence support.

Helping patients manage complex dosing schedules

Biologics nurses help patients successfully manage complex treatment regimens by providing practical tools and personalized support. Depending on the patient's preferences and needs, nurses may recommend strategies such as phone reminders, calendars, medication tracking tools or other routine-building techniques to promote adherence. For select self-administered injectable therapies, Biologics nurses can also offer an "unboxing" call to review medication supplies, reinforce administration instructions, and help patients or caregivers feel confident preparing for treatment.

Risk-based care for complex specialty therapies

Evidence-based support for patients at higher risk

For select therapies, Biologics offers Risk-Based Care, a personalized clinical support model designed to help patients overcome barriers that can impact adherence and outcomes. By identifying individual patient needs early and tailoring support throughout treatment, we help ensure patients receive the right level of engagement at the right time. This personalized, nurse-led approach provides additional monitoring, education and support between visits for patients who may be at higher risk for treatment challenges.

Evidence supporting this model has been published in the American Journal of Managed Care where patients receiving individualized nurse-led care plans remained on therapy nearly two months longer than patients who did not receive care plans.

Depending on their needs, eligible patients may receive:

  • Personalized care plans
  • A dedicated nurse point of contact
  • Tailored patient outreach and education
  • Ongoing reassessment and support
  • Clinical engagement based on patient needs
