BENEFITS INVESTIGATION

Verify patient benefits from the very start

Each day without verified coverage means another day without treatment. Biologics by McKesson helps providers and patients identify in-network specialty pharmacy benefits.

INDEPENDENT FOR A REASON

Partner with Biologics for access and transparency

Biologics is an independent specialty pharmacy that offers more than 200 oncology and rare disease therapies, including 130+ limited-distribution therapies. We contract with 500+ payers, which makes it possible for Biologics to cover a broad range of specialty drugs at in-network prices.

We verify coverage, work with payers, and proactively identify financial aid opportunities to help patients with out-of-pocket costs. We also take the time to investigate your patients’ questions about insurance, copays and any forms and documentation that may be required.

As an independent specialty pharmacy not affiliated with any pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), Biologics offers transparency — along with the potential to fill prescriptions across a broad range of insurance programs. If for any reason we’re not covered, we’ll quickly warm transfer the prescription to an in-network specialty pharmacy for prompt delivery and keep you informed along the way.

How prescribers can help expedite the process

When Biologics receives a complete prescription with all required supporting information, our team can begin benefits confirmation quickly and follow up as needed to identify coverage. The most effective way to expedite benefits investigation is by submitting a complete referral with all requested documentation. Providers can submit referrals through their existing EMR workflows via ePrescribing. See our How to Prescribe page to learn more.

Benefits Investigation FAQs

What insurance plans does Biologics contract with?

As an independent specialty pharmacy, Biologics contracts with more than 500 payers nationwide. Because specialty pharmacy coverage depends on the patient's specific health plan and benefit design, our team verifies coverage for every referral individually rather than relying on a payer list alone.

What if Biologics isn't listed on the insurance card?

You can still send the referral to Biologics. Specialty pharmacy requirements can vary based on the medication, payer and plan. Our team will verify coverage, determine whether Biologics can dispense the therapy and coordinate next steps with your office.

What happens if Biologics can't dispense?

Insurance requirements and limited distribution networks can sometimes prevent Biologics from dispensing a prescribed therapy. When that happens, we coordinate a warm transfer to the appropriate in-network specialty pharmacy, provide the necessary documentation and keep your office informed throughout the process.

Should I still send the referral if I'm unsure about coverage?

Yes. Benefits investigation is one of the first steps we take after receiving a referral. Our team will verify specialty pharmacy coverage, identify potential access barriers and determine whether Biologics can dispense the medication. If another pharmacy is required, we'll help coordinate the transition and keep your office informed so the patient can continue moving forward.
